What is verify address ownership?
Verify Address Ownership process involves verifying the ownership of a smart contract address with the Ethereum address used to create a smart contract, and this verification will link to an Etherscan account.
Previously, Etherscan adopts a signed message method where the owner of the smart contract will need to sign a message claiming ownership of the particular contract for every submission.
The signed message is a security step to ensure only the owner/creator of a contract address can update the token information of the contract itself.
Moving forward, once a user has claim ownership of an address or contract address, the user will be able to update their token information, dapp page and address name tag without needing to sign a new message for future submission.
The contract owner can verify ownership of multiple addresses under a single Etherscan’s account.
To have an address verify, the user would need :
- An Etherscan account
- Signed a message once to verified ownership of each address
Features available upon verification of address ownership :
- Update token webpage, social links, whitepaper, images, and description
- Update token info
- Update Dapp page (coming soon)
- Manage address name tag (coming soon)
