This month's quiz dives into the rabbit hole of Data Availability. It plays a key part in Ethereum's scaling roadmap, being necessary for Rollup transactions to be easily verifiable by light nodes. What is Erasure Coding? *

Deletion of redundant data from a database.

A way to scale data storage in a cost-efficient manner compared to simple replication.

Code that erases data from a blockchain after a certain period of time.

A method of programming that overwrites previously written code automatically.

What are Fraud Proofs? *

A method by which decentralized governance protocols arrive at decisions regarding delegator votes.

Succinct proofs that a proposed block is invalid which can be easily verified by light (ie low-cost) nodes.

A mechanism for validators in Ethereum's Beacon Chain to penalize false block proposals.

Proof of a fraudulent transaction which can be shown to platforms for reimbursement.

What is the Data Availability problem? *

For Zero-Knowledge blockchains, it is impossible for users to measure the total supply of coins as the balances are private.

As blockchains grow larger, it is harder for nodes to identify a specific transaction, causing them to be slower.

A limitation for light or low-cost nodes to verify validity of data due to it being withheld by a block producer.

Low number of nodes for a blockchain makes it more likely that a malicious party can attack the chain.

What is Data Availability Sampling? *

A process of sampling random anonymous addresses for their balance to estimate the total supply of a Zero-Knowledge blockchain.

A process for users to query services such as block explorers to ensure quick retrieval of specific transactions from massive blockchains.

A process where each node needs to be online for only certain periods of time, thereby reducing the costs of running one without compromising on decentralization.

A process by which a light node can download only small chunks of block data several times to verify with high probability that the block is valid.

If running a node simply meant keeping a mobile app continuously running on your phone, would you do so?
