Some mornings Iceland looks like an old black-and-white movie: its volcanic sand beaches contrast with an ominous sky, and the sea in its ebb and gloom seems to hide mysteries as old as the Earth. Only small blocks of ancient ice sometimes challenge these monochromatic landscapes, bringing to light tones so intense that they seem to tell stories of distant, forgotten worlds. By Francesco Gola
