8.2300° S, 112.9201° E April 22, 2019 Today was the last day of traveling Southeast Asia for a month, pushing myself past sleep deprivation, midnight wake-up calls, and even being attacked by wild monkeys. Because I know I need to keep shooting my best work yet to ensure this photography career is sustainable. For the final adventure, I was in East Java, Indonesia, where I found a driver willing to embark at 2am for my last sunrise location. I drifted between sleep and consciousness on the twilight drive, whirring past the jungle. Eventually, he signaled we were here. I walked down a a dim path at twilight, until I ended up at a makeshift wooden deck overlooking dozens of waterfalls, surrounded by wispy low clouds. I sent the drone up, and to my surprise there was a giant volcano towering above the jungle, illuminated by the early morning light. It felt like I had time traveled back millions of years, to an era entirely different than my own existence. A Jurassic world.
